| New Year Message |
Happy New Year to you! We thank Almighty God for His grace and mercies upon our lives and making it possible for us to enter this year 2023 alive with joy and hope to make life better.
In our modern society now, Technology is on the faster speed as new computers, smart devices and innovations are being produced almost everyday. In fact, Technology has revolutionised our society and daily lives. Most jobs and companies have now shifted from paper work to paperless (use of software) and higher percentage of people leaving in the world especially in Ghana are in one or other way using a smart device for social media and other purposes. Technology has indeed made our lives better, easier, faster, and more enjoyable, though there are some drawbacks that Technology has brought.
During my tertiary education, my Management Information Systems (MIS) lecturer advised us to take his course serious and forget about others, because there will be sometime when other courses will fade away and his course will rule the world. Though it sounded funny then, now he has been vindicated.
For instance, hospitals nowadays are using software in delivery of healthcare, Accountants are using software in account preparation and reports, Cashiers are using Point of Sales (POS) systems, Storekeepers are using Inventory management systems, Architects are using software in preparing building plan, student are using online platforms for their studies especially during the Covid-19 period etc.
This shows clearly that technology advancement is the order of the day and we have no option or excuse to go back. But, it quite sad and worrying in this part of our continent, West Africa, the fear we have in acquiring a skill in I.T. This is one of the major causes of delay in the development of the continent, because the tool that is suppose to make work faster and easier for higher productivity, has cause harm rather because of our lack of knowledge and skill in I.T.
I am here in this first month of the year challenging you to make a bold step in acquiring a knowledge or skill in I.T. to enable you perform your duties at work efficiently and effectively.
